Started in 2008, the Young Families Group was formed to give parents of school age children a community of peers that share a common faith & values.
The Young Families mission is to:
Focus on the needs & issues of families with school age children & young children (newborn to high school)
Offer a regular opportunity for families to come together to talk, brainstorm, seek advice, exchange ideas and support each other
Support all families in achieving their goal of creating a solid foundation for young children centered on God, faith and family.
Led by Fr. Wayne, the group meetings five to six times per year, and has addressed topics including:
Keeping Christ in Christmas: Sharing Family Traditions
What Does It Mean to Be a Catholic Family?
Embracing Lent: Preparing Your Family for Easter
Renewing Your Commitment to Family - Keeping Your Relationships Strong
How Does Leisure Help Us Grow Spiritually?
Gatherings take place on Saturday evenings at 6pm in the Peace Room. These are adult only events, however onsite child supervision is provided for children of all ages - please inquire.
Additional Outreach Work
In the spring of 2008, Young Families initiated an outreach project to feed the homeless, where we gathered to donate, assemble, bag and distribute over 200 lunches to some of the neediest residents in Oakland. Children were included in this outreach and it was a powerful experience for all involved.
If you are a parent or planning to become a parent, please join us for out next gathering. We encourage & welcome new families to attend!
