Here are the current needs for your consideration:
Involve your Congregation in a Backpack Drive. Throughout the summer, congregations collect school supplies for distribution
to all school-age children of all our programs in August. For your list of requested items, please contact
firstname.lastname@example.org. Collection delivery requested for August 19.
Help the 2012 Ruby Slippers Committee Assist in recruiting volunteers to plan or work the event, solicit auction item donations
and invite congregants to the event. Please email your interest to email@example.com.
Be a Volunteer Tutor Once a week, between 2:30 – 5:30PM, Monday through Thursday, help a child with their academic needs in
math or reading and reward them in the end with a round or two of puzzles and board games! Volunteers are needed in our Pleas-
ant Hill and East Contra Costa County locations. Fall training is scheduled at 6PM, Monday, August 15 and the school year be-
gins at August 30. Please email your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org for Pleasant Hill and mel-
email@example.com for East County programs. If you would like us to make a recruitment presentation to your specific
group, please contact us. We would welcome the opportunity.
Participate in the Adopt a Family Program. Starting late September, congregations are solicited to help fill the wish lists of the
various families at Garden Park Apartments. Wrapped and labeled collected items are delivered in December. For program spe-
cifics, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
AND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:
Conduct an enrichment activity for the tenants. Throughout the year, congregations can organize an activity such as a barbeque
for families, an hour-long seasonal craft activity for the kids, or a specialty activity for the adults such as flower-arranging or cook-
ing. Please contact email@example.com to schedule an activity!
Conduct a food drive. Congregations can hold a food drive to allow us to put together “welcome” boxes of food for new families
that move into the community. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for food items requested and delivery options.
Help furnish apartments. Throughout the year, needs arise to help furnish recently vacated units. Items such as small kitchen
appliances, apartment-size furniture, linen and cleaning products are needed to help ready it for the next homeless occupant. Please
contact email@example.com for more information.
Provide a meal for a monthly Tenant Meeting. Every month, residents of Garden Park Apartments attend a tenant meeting and
share a meal with each other. These community meetings are essential in building the community, reinforcing the tenants’ roles as
stakeholders in their community and allowing them to learn important skills needed to continually improve their lives. Congrega-
tions provide a meal to feed 35-40 people. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We hope that you consider involving your congregation in any of these listed activities. As you know, only through your generos-
ity of time and spirit can we help better the lives of the less fortunate in our community.
